Community Service & Paid Work Hours
Naples Classical Academy scholars are to meet a minimum of 30 volunteer or paid work hours prior to graduation.
Why are volunteer hours required?
- Bright Futures Scholarship requires:
- 100 hours must be documented for the Florida Academic Scholar
- 75 hours must be documented for the Florida Medallion Scholar
Instructions for Documenting Community Service Hours
The scholar must:
- Obtain prior approval from his/her school college advisor to ensure that the community service site meets the criteria and that the student will receive community service hours for volunteering.
- Volunteer services to a local non-profit community agency that meets the following guidelines:
- All services are of a benevolent nature, unpaid, and not for personal gain
All services are supervised by an approved adult representative of the agency - Service does not interrupt a scholar’s regularly scheduled school day
- Service must be completed by the last term of the scholar’s senior year
- The site is related to service, humanitarian/caring, community needs, and does not involve:
- direct supervision/ownership/operation by a family member
- the presence of illegal substances or unsafe conditions
- the use of scholar for financial gain
- All services are of a benevolent nature, unpaid, and not for personal gain
- Scholars must record and submit their hours to the college advisor using the form at the bottom of the page. Preapproval forms and Volunteer Logs are available in the college advising office.
- The service hours will be placed on the scholar’s transcript after an evaluation is completed by the college advisor.
Instructions for Documenting Paid Work Hours
The scholar must:
- Obtain the paid work hours log from the college advising office
- Submit the log with a pay stub for proof of employment
